Mexican Marhnos bets on expansion to Puerto Rico
Héctor Aguilar, Director of Infrastructure Development of Marhnos, met with the executive director of the Authority for Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) of the territory, Fermín Fontanés, to discuss various projects.
Aguilar said that, during a first stage of expansion, Marhnos will try to obtain social infrastructure PPPs related to the reconstruction of schools that have been affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes.
"We are very focused on social infrastructure," said the executive, who noted that they have health projects in Mexico. “In Peru we have very interesting education projects, we have experience that we have generated and it is what we want to take to Puerto Rico, where many schools were damaged by the hurricane. The area of education in Puerto Rico is one of those that most wants to invest in infrastructure. We will also evaluate your health at the time."
Although authorities have shown interest, Marhnos will have to wait another six months to move forward, according to Aguilar.
“You have the business opportunity, the cultural affinity and a direction or a government entity dedicated to public-private partnerships that not all countries or states have. The ideal conditions are in place for a lasting and solid relationship to be established,” said the executive, adding that Florida and California will be considered for a second stage of expansion.
Asked about the decrease in PPP projects in Mexico, Aguilar indicated that this does not prevent the company from doing business in its country of origin.
“We particularly like the PPP modality because it allows you to have long-term projects, to operate and maintain a business, and it forces you to maintain good quality in your delivery,” he explained. "PPP projects have perhaps been reduced a bit, not all governments like that modality."
